Cool local place with a down-home vibe, solid menu, and good service. I've been here a few times now-- once for brunch, and twice in the afternoon. Great food each time-- the menu has some upscale touches to it without going full-on fancy. You can tell that someone has given the food some real thought on the menu and in the kitchen. The atmosphere is casual, and family-friendly, would be good for larger parties. Prices are fair-- I'll definitely be back!

Best little hidden gem near Evansville, Indiana. Local hangout with the best food and beer. Bartenders and waitstaff is super friendly! Definitely a must stop when you're in the area!

I've heard great things about Hornet's Nest but their Easter Brunch was disappointing. I ordered a ham steak and eggs with Texas toast. The ham steak was pretty small, about the size of a deck of cards. The "Texas toast" was regular white bread toasted with some butter on it. It was very dried out. My ham tasted fine and so did my eggs but I felt for the $9 they charged, they could have had slightly larger portions especially considering that their regular brunch has a 3 egg ham and cheese omelette for $7. I feel like they just cashed in on the day being a holiday (they *only* offered this slightly higher priced menu). Also, I sat outside and while I really enjoyed the atmosphere and eating outside on a cool spring day, I was not happy that some mystery dust fell on me TWICE and ended up in my food and drink. I don't know what the dust was, the particles were larger than dust and it didn't look like sawdust. It was very strange. Luckily I was done eating (I only had a half a piece of toast left) but I couldn't enjoy the rest of the drink I paid for because it had pieces of something floating in it.

Maybe the best restaurant bar near Evansville. I reccomend the Thai chicken and also the Buffalo wing strips. The bread pudding looked great as well for dessert. Wednesday is any draft in a fishbowl for 3 bucks and they have quite a selection.

Our latest trip was with my wife and her family. They got us seated for brunch quickly and our waitress was amazing. She was funny, friendly, and helped get our grandmother settled on something she wanted (which can be challenging). It was especially nice as we'd been to Haub the night before, and it was the polar opposite. The transition from the "buffet" to the new brunch menu was something that worried me initially, but I've been completely won over. A few of our party went with some "Benedict" special that they all loved. I got the Honey Buffalo Fried Chicken Biscuits, because I can't get enough of it. Between that and the Chicken & Waffles I'm reluctant to try other items. I wish I could tell you about how good other things are, but I love those two things too much to try anything else. When it comes to dinner you've got a lot of good options. My favorite appetizer is probably the Fish Bites, but it's quite a bit. If I'm looking for less food then the Breaded Mushrooms are a good choice. The steaks are consistently very good. You can't go wrong with the Prime Rib, and you're probably taking home enough steak for steak & eggs in the morning (but I think you should just come back for brunch!). They've also always done a good job of cooking the steaks to order. Their hamburgers are some of the best in the city, so don't be shy about ordering them. Everybody knows about the delicious fried chicken, and we especially like to get that as carry out. The 'to-go' service is usually quick, and it's a good value. Sometimes when the bar is packed there can be a wait to get your turn to pay. The only negative that I can say is the service isn't always perfect. Everyone is friendly, but there are times when their attentiveness is questionable. Lately that has been less of an issue though, and that's why I've moved them to a 5 star rating. Very lucky to have this place close to home.
